3.29 mi, 21:45 (laps on the track)
I don’t normally like doing speed work on the track and the track at the Roosevelt Senior High School near my new house is painted asphalt. It’s not the rubbery surface one would hope for but it is at least marked out correctly. My pal Rob decided to give me a little challenge and he’s boasting of some impressive mile time so I went down there to get an idea of what my current mile time is like. Given that I haven’t done much distance in a while I might as well get used to shorter runs.
I tried to use the Garmin Forerunner’s lap feature to get an accurate assessment of each lap. I was mostly doing 4 laps at a medium to high tempo followed by a recovery lap. It ended up being more trouble than it was worth though I probably just need to reread the manual on how to use it. I only ended up doing 3 laps. Safe to say that my mile time is around 7 minutes:
1st repeat: 1.12 mi., 7:07
2nd repeat: 1.12 mi, 7:24
3rd repeat: 1.05 mi, 7:14
I want to get a more accurate reading so I’ll probably head out there again sometime soon. I might get the hang of this short distance thing yet.
