This time for real
I’ve been going again on and off since February ‘06 after a long break following the marathon last October. In March I started going to a physical therapist for my left knee problems after my doctor took an MRI and believed that this was my best option. I went to Potrero Hill Physical Therapy and worked with Tracy Mitchell-Moore who is excellent. I would still be going to her for help if I still lived in Potrero Hill, or San Francisco, or even on the west coast. But in July I moved to Washington, DC so my training pretty much came to a stand still. Unfortunately, a back injury forced me to stop training even before the move. More on that some other time.
I did get one good run in while crossing the U.S. and that was in Boulder, CO at the Mesa trail head just south of Boulder. In fact I drove a bit out of my way just to see Boulder and it was well worth it. There are some photos of the trip which are dominated by the scenery in Boulder. Some friends of mine want to run a race in Boulder and after being there I’m even more keen on the idea.
I’m back on the road now. The weather in DC in July was brutal but thus far in August the temps have dropped off a bit. I ran 4 miles/30 minutes in 97 degree heat last week and my left knee ballooned to around grapefruit size (that seems like a familiar comparison? how did the poor grapefruit get involved in injury size comparisons?). This evening I managed to get a bit farther into Rock Creek Park and start exploring. Since I live only a mile from the Piney Branch Rd. entrance to the park I’m reticent to drive to a particular trail head. But this evening I got a taste of what would be available if I did so perhaps I’ll pump up the bike tires or something and get a bit north of my usual entry point.
More soon.
