Mid tempo run through Potrero Hill today. Did some climbing on Connecticut and Wisconsin Streets. My left knee is bothering me and is tender to the touch. It started after my 16 mile run last Sunday. It is probably runner’s knee. Interestingly enough the iliotibial band hasn’t been a problem as of late and I even ran a few times without my handy strap. I’ve found an effective way of stretching it. I do the normal one leg over the other and bend down to touch your toes stretch and then twist away from the inside, or back. leg. If you stand up a bit or use something nearby to grab onto you can feel the band and a bunch of other muscles up the entire side of your body.

I’m hoping these two injuries are not somehow related. I suspect it is just from the sudden increase in mileage over the last few weeks. Icing the knee temporarily helps. I’m going to hit the ibuprofen bottle a bit more aggressively today in hopes to reduce any cartilage swelling.
