First run with the new shoes. I tried on a pair of the Asics Gel Kayano XI running shoes at On the Run in the inner Sunset (near Golden Gate Park). The nice folks at this store let you run around the block in as many pairs as you care to test so it is a great place to try out new shoes. I had gone there to try out the last paris of New Balance shoes but, found them to be generally too wide for my feet. Asics and Nikes have been better for my narrow feet. I ran up and down the block with a New Balance shoe on one foot and an Asics on the other. Then another pair of New Balance shoes (the 1010s I think) and then finally the Kayano pair. The Kayano shoes have a good deal of cushioning and felt great. I bought my Vapor Lights a half size bigger than normal hoping to accommodate foot swelling but I think I over did it. Plus while they are great for road and trail they are a bit boxy. They feel heavy to me but they probably weigh only an ounce more than the Asics pair I ended up buying.

Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I could get the shoes both cheaper and in a better color until after I ran in them. Why are running sneakers white? To reflect the sun? I know buying by color is ridiculous but, I can’t help but wish that I had the grey and red instead of the white and blue pair. Anyway, they feel great and that is all that counts. Happy Birthday to me.

Just a speedy run a bit shy of 5 miles since my friend Space invited me out to run the San Pablo Bay Trail Run this Sunday. We both signed up to do the half-marathon. This will ensure that I get my miles in this weekend. Although I was supposed to do 15 or more miles this Sunday I figure a trail race of 13.1 counts just as much. I’ll definitely have more fun doing the trail run.
