I managed to hold a 7:18/mile pace for this run. I’ve been trying to increase my pace on the shorter mileage. That’s the plan anyway. Unfortunately, I ran into some game day traffic. I feel for the diehard Giants fans coming out to see the remaining games even though the team didn’t make the playoffs. […]

I finally got to run on a track! This was a lot of fun. The track is soft and well maintained. I needed to do 12×400 meters so it was crucial to be able to repeatedly run a short distance uninterrupted. Use of the track at Kezar stadium is often impeded this time of year […]

Above is my shiny new medal for finishing third of 11 in my age group (30-34) and tenth overall at the San Pablo Bay Trail Half-Marathon. My time was 1 minute and 40 seconds faster than my SF Half-Marathon time mainly because the field was much smaller (obviously) and I was better placed from the […]

First run with the new shoes. I tried on a pair of the Asics Gel Kayano XI running shoes at On the Run in the inner Sunset (near Golden Gate Park). The nice folks at this store let you run around the block in as many pairs as you care to test so it is […]

4×1200m speed work. It was supposed to be 1600m but I misread the distance this morning. Not so big on the morning runs. The speed work does build confidence in going fast but not so much in going the distance. 26 miles seems like a lifetime of running at the moment.

Heat is not good. I’m not used to the heat anymore. The cozy confines of SF foggy mornings and late afternoons have turned me into a puff pastry. Put me in the sun and I expand and toast.
K. had an interview to start working a weekend day or two up in Sonoma and we […]

What a beastly run. I had a devil of a time.
Seriously, 8×800m was pretty rough. I did 4 of the reps around the soccer fields in the park and then 2 to get there and 2 to get back to start. The GPS was on metric so I didn’t realize until now that I […]

First day back after more than a week off due to illness. The illness hasn’t departed either. But the run wasn’t too bad despite the layoff. I think at this point I’m just going to ignore the head cold and push on. I actually felt better after the run than before.
Faxed in my transfer […]

I bonked! Whee! For the first time in recent memory I just completely ran out of gas. I didn’t eat too well the night before or on the day. German cheese Spatzel and beer for dinner, left overs for lunch. I managed to stagger back to my car where fortunately I had a Luna bar […]

Speed work. 7 x 800m with short rest jogs in between for a total of 7km. I’ll be interested to see the speeds on the generated map because it felt fast. After this marathon in October it is back to half-marathon and below distances and hopefully lots of trails. I am over pavement. It is […]
