4.12 miles, 28:11
Did a bit of speed work today. I tried to keep the pace under a 7 minute mile the whole way but, I was only partially successful. I felt fine for the first 2 miles and then by 3.66 I recall checking my forerunner display and thinking, “This is where I have conked out.” Unfortunately, one of my toes that is sporting a black toenail (black since the 1/2 marathon) has started to feel really wonky. I’ve been reading John Vonhof’s “Happy Feet” blog which I would highly recommend to anyone. He has been publishing a newsletter, “Fixing your feet”, for a long time and has now joined the blogging ranks. Mr. Vonhof has solid advice on all sorts of foot related topics. Turns out we like the same socks (Injinji, Smartwool, and, Balega). Which brings us to the question of the day: do you have a favorite pair of socks? Mine are the Injini Tetratsoks, though since they are a bit thin I tend to wear the Wigwam Ironman Triathlon Ultimax socks more often.
In other news, I managed to obtain a bib for the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. It takes place Sunday, October 30th so the weather should be nice and Bay area-esque. I used to live in DC (went to school there), my band mates and close friends live there, and we need a vacation so, DC it is. Sadly, my sister and brother-in-law are moving away from DC to Charlotte, NC this week so I probably won’t see the family but, it will still be a very enjoyable time. I will get to do some recording, running, and partake in some serious post-race merriment. Looking forward to it.
