3.78 miles, 26:13

Back to action after a week off. It was a bit strange running in the park after having raced there last week. I kept wondering, why didn’t they take us this way? The dog leg in the course this year was a little strange but, I suppose the organizers have path size and traffic patterns to contend with. I’ve spent the last week “resting” which entails drinking beer, drinking sake, picking up a head cold (or allergies, hard to tell yet), obsessing over knee braces, and over analyzing the race (started too far back and took too long to pick up the pace).

I’ve started to contemplate the next step. I’m hoping to run either a half trail marathon or a full road marathon next. The Runner’s World race finder has been quite helpful. I’ve been contemplating the Nike Women’s SF marathon which is in fact open to men. Their web site is extremely detailed and impressive. It is a flash site which I’m not usually fond of but, the course map has excellent details plus you can enter your goals and it will break down the race mile by mile with what should be your target times. Neat stuff.

The Nike 1/2 Marathon is sold out, but I think the full is still open. The Big Sur marathon also sounds nice…

Yes, I picked up a brochure for the Big Sur at the SF marathon goodies tent. My conundrum is whether or not to do a trail half marathon now or after a full marathon. Redwood trails has a bunch of interesting trail races. I’m going to get this new knee brace and see how the longer mileage feels. If the knee holds up I’ll probably register for the full Nike marathon. If not, I’ll stick to the half distance. Either way a trail half is in the near future.
